The second phase of construction work of Alsfan project in the Bareek Hab refugees’ town of Qarabagh district of Kabul province was inaugurated by H.E. Shaheer Ahmad Shahryar, the Deputy Minister for Programs of Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development.
This project includes construction of 4,263 meters of boundary wall for the town, 300 shelter homes including, kitchens, store rooms and latrines. The project also has an economic empowerment component aimed at making women self-sufficient by providing them with training programs for handicrafts, quilt making, blankets, tailoring and Gahnd (traditional Afghan embroidery).
Addressing the attendees at the inauguration, H.E. Deputy Minister Sharyar said:
“This project with a cost of Afs 170 million is funded by the Government of Australia and will be implemented by MRRD in close cooperation of UNDP. With the completion of this project, over 1,025 returnee families will be provided with basic household facilities.”
During the first phase of this project, MRRD distributed 328 solar panels, built water wells and water supply networks - greatly addressing the actual needs and priorities of the returnees.
