As of January 2016 HealthNet will open three training centres to expand and improve services in for people with mental disorders and people living with disabilities. One will be run by our partner in this project IAM (International Assistance Mission). The centres will be located in Kabul, Herat, and Mazar.

We are planning to conduct training for 257 psychosocial counsellors (PSC), of which 92 are from North and Northeast to be trained in the Mazar training centre, 43 psychosocial counsellors from South and Southwest to be trained in the Herat training centre run by IAM and 122 psychosocial counsellors from Central, East and Southeast to be trained in the Kabul training centre. Beside that 86 doctors and midwives will receive their training in Herat, 184 doctors and midwives in Mazar and 244 in Kabul.

The duration of the training for each psychosocial counsellor will be 135 days which includes three months of initial training, followed by a two to three week follow-up training. There will also be a training for medical doctors, midwives and focal points.

This project will last three years and is funded by the European Commission.
